A taste of the Fifties at care home charity supper

Colten's Kingfishers residents bop in time with 50s inspired fundraising supper.

A charity supper with a vintage Fifties rock and roll theme had feet tapping. The evening, at Colten Care’s Kingfishers home in New Milton, raised more than £120 for Hope New Forest and Cat & Kitten Rescue of Lymington. Residents, staff, relatives and members of the community all attended, some dressing up in 1950s costumes.

As Christchurch-based singer Retro Rita performed hits from the 50s, diners took to the floor to show off their jive, bop, swing and other dance moves.

Rose Arcellana, the home’s Companionship Team Leader, said: “The supper was a great success. There were smiles and laughter all round and it was lovely to see families enjoy a dance or two.”

She added: “The two charities we helped were chosen by the residents themselves. Our thanks to everyone who came along. It was a great atmosphere and a good time was had by all.”

Family-owned Colten Care has a policy of enabling residents at all 20 of its homes in Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and Sussex to retain community links by supporting charities and good causes of their choice.

Kingfishers is one of three Colten Care homes to be officially rated Outstanding by care sector regulator the Care Quality Commission.
