Happy Easter Weekend Good Morning a day early this week! The dreary early months of the year seem long ago, the glorious weeks of spring sunshine in their wake have been such a tonic. But with Easter so late this year the year is now literally racing by - nearly 4 months gone already! So the long weekend is surely a perfect opportunity to stop and stare - for a brief while at least. I've lately become rather fascinated by Easter trees - in fact they seem to be becoming quite a thing, and my eye was caught by this rather delicate decorative display. Eggs have historically been associated with spring and the rebirth of nature. The use of eggs in spring festivals predates Christianity, with some believing the association with Easter came from pagan customs of celebrating spring and the goddess Eostre. In Christianity, Easter eggs symbolise the resurrection of Jesus, with the empty shell representing the tomb and the egg itself symbolizing new life emerging from death. And during Lent Christians traditionally abstained from eating eggs (also there weren't many being produced in winter!) making them a special treat and a symbol of indulgence on Easter Sunday. I'm about to thread some foil wrapped chocolate mini eggs onto a variety of twigs informally arranged in a tall vase, which will be special time enjoyably spent and hey presto my Easter tree! In modern Easter celebrations the Easter Bunny is a popular figure often associated with hiding and decorating eggs, further reinforcing the symbolism of new life and rebirth. And of course another tradition which has gathered pace is the Easter Sunday Egg Hunt. If you can't wait until Sunday (or all the eggs have sold out!) join the Easter Egg Trail at the Montagu Arms tomorrow. And every day until next Tuesday the Hot Cross Bunny leads the Hot Cross Bun-anza Easter Trail at Exbury Gardens, or try a Canoe Easter Egg Hunt with New Forest Activities. If you haven't yet done your Big Easter Shop, do consider the tempting Easter Sunday Lunches on offer at some of the New Forest's top restaurants including Le Blaireau and Stanwell House. (Plus see lots of Afternoon Tea options in the Diary below.) I've been hearing good things too about the Sunday roast at the Gun Inn (which also has live music on Monday at 1pm with Cafe Mondial), and you will always be made most welcome for Sunday Lunch by Simon and his brilliant team at the Turfcutters Arms, where tomorrow evening The Transitions will be playing live and on Easter Sunday from 4pm Just Jamming; also next Wednesday for St George's Day the Turfs will have yet more live music with Cheese & Weasels. On to other events, and first Alice and The White Rabbit in Woodside Gardens is getting rave reviews, and it's on until next Tuesday. Meanwhile for model railway aficionados this weekend is the big one with Lymington Model Railway Exhibition, tomorrow and Sunday at Lymington Community Centre. If you've ever wondered what a 'Thermomix' is, it's a rather amazing multi-purpose multi-cooker which can make everything from cake to curry, cocktails to bread and baby food. You can see it demonstrated and even have a go at cooking in it, today and Saturday at the Thermomix Pop Up Shop in St Thomas Street. A shout out for the Jesus Christ Superstar: Live Arena Tour which is coming to the Malt Cinema next Tuesday and Wednesday. And next Wednesday's Lymington Society Illustrated Talk. Gill Electronics Research may on the face of it sound dull but it's actually the first time telling of an amazing story which began in a converted stable block in Milford in 1985, grew into a major, cutting-edge, world-renowned high technology company and remains to this day loyally and proudly based in Lymington. Do go along if you can! With that I'll wish you all a very enjoyable long weekend. Best wishes JaneEmail
