New Forest Marque

Grown & Made in, Inspired by - the New Forest

Welcome New Forest Marque!

This week and in fact early this sunny morning before the heat intensifies, I'm delighted to welcome the New Forest Marque as a Business Member of Lymington.com.

The distinctive navy emblem you see in shops, outlets and eateries began 20 years ago to support local farmers. It is awarded to New Forest businesses that meet strict criteria relating to local provenance, meaning that they stock, serve or make produce that has been grown, reared, brewed, produced or processed here in the New Forest. There are now almost 200 member businesses with New Forest Marque certification, who all have the New Forest at the heart of what they do.

The beautiful heathlands, forests and coastline of the New Forest have developed over centuries of unique farming practices and traditions, alongside an abundance of free-roaming livestock and native wildlife, resulting in a delicate and unique balance of community, local economy and nature.

The New Forest Marque works to protect, encourage, and promote the traditional practices which help to fashion our iconic landscape. When we choose to 'buy local' we are making a conscious choice not only to buy seasonal, fresh and traceable but also to help protect this delicate balance. Our choice supports small independent businesses, reduces food miles, and helps to keep our unique New Forest thriving. We're all connected!

As of 2023, New Forest Marque also includes artists and craftspeople.  The newer white and green 'Inspired' logo can be found on arts, crafts and gifts that have been made by Marque Inspired members – all inspired by the beauty of the New Forest.

New Forest Marque at the New Forest Show

And in just over two weeks a number of New Forest Marque members will be at the New Forest Show at New Park. They will be in the Local Produce Market, providing delicious food and drink and showcasing and selling New Forest produce. Do go and find them - the atmosphere in this part of the showground also tends to be gentler than in the busy big food tents. Plus new for this year's show, New Forest Marque 'Inspired' members will be presenting their arts and crafts in a brand new area close by.

Imminent Events

Meanwhile beginning today 3 days of the fabulous Lymington Seafood Festival beckon. It looks set this year to be blessed with much more than fair weather, in fact a timely warning to wear hats and drink plenty of water!

There's lots more going on this weekend if you're not too hot to make the effort: see Diary below and check our the full Events Calendar too. A special word of mention for the Cream Tea and Plant Sale at Lymington Community Centre. And for a cool-down the Lymington Rowing Club's Rowing Regatta is taking place off the beach at Milford on Sea!

Best wishes Jane

SPONSORS OF THE NORTH RING

Scott Bailey LLP:  official sponsors of the North Ring at the 2025 New Forest Show

The New Forest's Scott Bailey Solicitors are delighted once again this year to be sponsoring the North Ring at the 3 day New Forest Show which is rapidly approaching - in just over two weeks' time Tues 29-Thurs 31 July.

The North Ring is that rather special place on the far side of the main rings, where large trees provide shade as well as the backdrop to the the magnificent heavy horses with their gigantic personalities to match their stature.

As a firm rooted in the heart of the New Forest for over 70 years, with main offices in Lymington and now an office in Lyndhurst too, Scott Bailey values greatly the community, countryside and traditions that make this part of the world so special. As they say, the New Forest Show brings all those elements together in one wonderful celebration.

The New Forest Show was first held in 1920. Now one of the UK’s top agricultural shows, it  draws thousands of visitors from across the country, while still keeping its heart firmly in the Forest. From livestock competitions and vintage tractors to dog agility and the Shetland Pony Grand National, the Show manages to stay both traditional and timeless, while also looking ahead to the future.

Look out for members of the Scott Bailey team presenting the show awards for a number of classes including the Tattersalls RoR (Retraining of Racehorses) Open In-Hand Show Series Qualifier, the Rare Breed In-Hand, Heavy Horse Pairs and Heavy Horse In-Hand. And say hello!

And look out for their fun banners, too! Click the link to read this month's Scott Bailey article and whet your appetite for this year's show with a taster from last year's.
