Finding Tranquillity
It's ironic that the four weeks of Advent, during which we're supposed to be reflecting and calmly considering the weekly themes of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love, are typically spent with heads in a spin, trying to get done more than at any other time of the year!
I have however been blessed this week to enjoy some tranquillity, thanks in no small measure to Oakhaven's beautiful 'Light up a Life' service on Tuesday afternoon in historic Beaulieu Abbey Church, including a very special welcome by the Reverend Catherine Cowie. The whole service was full of highlights but I'm going to single out especially the high quality performance by the most excellent Ballard School choir. Then there was yesterday's yoga class with the wonderful Katy, which this week focused on releasing tension and deep relaxation. (Katy's classes are a bit of a best kept secret - email me if you'd like to be introduced!)
In the words of the team at SenSpa at Careys Manor: "The festive season is a beautiful flurry of gatherings, glittering lights and good intentions, yet it so often leaves us stretched thin. Between last-minute shopping, social commitments and the pressure to make everything feel magical, calm can feel out of reach."
What we need... is a pause, for tranquillity!
So with no further ado, introducing the new New Forest Spa at Balmer Lawn Hotel, and the Yim Yai Spa at SenSpa Careys Manor.
Enter a Tranquil Space: New Forest Spa
The New Forest Spa at the Balmer Lawn Hotel in Brockenhurst is still pretty much brand new - it opened earlier this year, since when it has been warmly welcomed by guests staying at the hotel.
And now, it's ready to receive us too - whether we’re looking to reset, recharge, or simply soak up some stillness. And to encourage us to set foot (and the rest of our persons) within, Alison (see last week's newsletter) and her team have come up with a really great offer for us too:
-
Tranquillity For Two Spa Day: a full day in the spa, for 2 people, for just £99!
Designed for couples or friends, the new 'Tranquillity for Two Spa Day' invites us to reconnect with ourselves in peaceful surrounding, Sunday to Thursday, starting anytime from 9.30am to 5.30pm to suit our timetables and staying as long as we like. We will have full access to the whole of the spa's thermal suite, the indoor and outdoor pools, the jacuzzi and the outdoor spa deck. (If we want to mix in a bit of the cold with the warm...)
We will also receive a 20% discount on any pre-booked treatments (book in advance using code GLOW at checkout).
Of course this could equally make a lovely Christmas present for someone special, as could Afternoon Tea or Sunday Lunch Vouchers at Balmer Lawn!

Embrace Tranquillity: Introducing the Yim Yai Spa
Yim Yai is a Thai phrase meaning 'big smile', and this new spa day at SenSpa has been created to bring a smile to our faces, through stillness, warmth and deeply restorative care.
Available Tuesday to Thursday starting at 9.30am, the Yim Yai Spa Day is a mid-week mind and body nurturing experience which includes:
- full use of SenSpa’s hydrotherapy and spa facilities
- choice of a 30-minute massage or a facial, either of which is tailored to relax, replenish and revive
- a delicious Thai-inspired two-course lunch at the Zen Garden restaurant...
...which connecting directly with the spa is itself a deeply relaxed space, in fact it can feel quite surreal (in an incredibly positive way!) to dine in this rarefied, almost spiritual, atmosphere. As the team say: "SenSpa is one of the most serene spa hotels in Hampshire, renowned for its expansive facilities and tranquil atmosphere. Warmth wraps itself around you from the moment you arrive: the soft glimmer of water in the hydrotherapy pool, the aromatic drift of essential oils, the hush of relaxation rooms where time seems to slow."
So slow the time now to read more about Yim Yai Spa and then - just do it!

This Weekend...
Still on the tranquillity theme, there's one final Oakhaven Light up a Life Service to come, this evening at 5.30, at St Saviour’s Church, Brockenhurst. No booking required, just turn up. For a small donation you can also light a candle at the appropriate moment in the service. Enjoy!
Of course to clear befuddled heads it's hard to beat a winter walk, although after the recent torrents, wellies are pretty well de rigueur on the forest. But it's still free to park in forest car parks - for a little longer at least!
Meanwhile tonight there's live entertainment with Scrooge Live! at New Milton Memorial Centre, Tina Turner Tribute at Pebble Beach and The Transitions at the Turfcutters Arms, whilst tomorrow promises the following Christmas events to enjoy:
- Wreath-making with Sarah at Stanwell House
- East Boldre Christmas Show 2025
- Golden Musical Gala for the Countryside Education Trust
- Christmas Evening with Jax Hall at Pebble Beach
Then the holiday activities start to kick in - see Diary below. And don't forget this year's very special pantomime-themed Palace House Christmas at Beaulieu!
By the way have you spotted (see top of newsletter) that Santa is already out and about in his sleigh? According to news reports earlier this week there was an escapee from the reindeer enclosure, eventually found after an enormous search only when he ran out of steam and fell asleep in a bush. We understand that further training is now taking place in preparation for the Big Night!
Best wishes Jane
