It's not an April Fool, I know it's Thursday today - and because it's Easter Weekend it seemed sensible to send early this week. However there's a nice little tease below...

"As woodland paths begin to soften with new growth, ponies roam freely across open heathland, and coastal towns like Lymington feel gently reawakened by longer, lighter days... it’s the perfect season to slow down, step outside, and embrace a little restorative time."

The Scott Bailey ultra challenge team

Happy New Forest Easter from Scott Bailey

On Saturday 2 May, five colleagues at Scott Bailey Solicitors in Lymington will be taking on the Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge – a 106 km continuous walk around the island, all to be completed within 24 hours. The photo at the top of the newsletter is one of a number taken on their recent training walk in the forest - see more here.

The challenge began, as many things do, with a simple idea. Back in December, Partner Ben Ironmonger decided he fancied setting himself a goal for 2026. That idea quickly gathered momentum, and before long he had recruited a team of willing volunteers from across the firm to join him.

Taking part alongside Ben are Katie Dougan from the Wills, Trusts and Probate team, and apprentice solicitors Holly Mitchell, Joseph Hammond and Benjamin Bethell. Between them, they are bringing a mix of determination, humour and just the right amount of stubbornness needed to get through something of this scale.

Of course, the challenge is about more than just the distance. The team is raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Most of us have been affected by cancer in one way or another, and this is the leading charity providing support to people living with cancer and their loved ones. Read on!

Balmer Lawn 1 April

Happy New Forest Easter from the Balmer Lawn Hotel

Yesterday the team at the Balmer Lawn Hotel wrote to inform us that along with plenty of good reasons already to visit the New Forest at Easter, like roaming ponies, ancient woodland, open heathland and the sense of calm that makes it all so special... that a curious new resident had been spotted on the cricket pitch, at first glance a little like a Shetland pony but with clearly something different about it. Head Gardener Neil suggested it was a Shig, a Shetland pony-pig hybrid sometimes mentioned in old Forest folklore.

And yes...yesterday was 1 April. We are invited to discover the unexpected, at the Balmer Lawn Hotel!

And Finally, Happy New Forest Easter from Me!

This photo is no foolery, taken by me this morning at 06.21; it's April's 'Pink' Moon which was apparently at its fullest at 03.12 and towards which the Artemis II and its brave crew are currently headed on their historic mission.

Tomorrow (Friday!) evening there's live music at the Turfcutters Arms with Just Jamming, and on Sunday afternoon with Rebel Souls. On Saturday while Lymington Charter Market is in full flow, and again on Sunday, there's the very special annual Lymington Model Railway Exhibition at Lymington Community Centre. Also on Sunday, if you haven't booked an Easter Day celebration and fancy doing so, how about Enchanted Forest Afternoon Tea at Careys Manor?

Meanwhile the Easter Holidays continue, with plenty of activities to keep the children occupied including Easter Archery Tournament and Canoe Easter Egg Hunt with New Forest Activities, Easter at BeaulieuEaster Holiday Camps and Football Training Camps at Durlston and Funseekers! Easter Holiday Camp at Walhampton, Children's Easter Yoga at Stanwell House, Easter at New Forest Wildlife Park plus Witch/Craft at St Barbe Museum & Art Gallery...all listed below too.

Happy Easter Weekend everyone!

Best wishes Jane
