Forestry 100 - The Story of Your Forest

Galleries and Exhibitions
Date: Saturday, 16 March 10:00 - Sunday, 07 July 16:30

Venue: New Forest Heritage Centre

In 1919 the government set up the Forestry Commission to replenish the nation’s timber reserves in the wake of WW1. Since then the landscapes it manages have gone through significant change and now face very different challenges.

This is particularly the case in the New Forest which in 2009 became A Site of Special Scientific Interest, and has become one of the country’s most important habitats for many species of wildlife and plants.

This exhibition looks back at the Forestry Commission’s activities in the New Forest and the important role the New Forest plays in our local economy through timber and providing a wonderful place to visit. It also highlights future challenges to ensuring its conservation and leaving a positive legacy for future generations.
