Congratulations to young Lymington sailors in National Championships

Lymington rules the waves!

Congratulations to Santi, National Optimist Champion and Emma, Junior National Optimist Champion!

Santi Sesto Cosby 2019 National Optimist Champion and Henry Heathcote 2ndLast week a fleet of Lymington sailors headed to the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy for the 2019 Optimist British National Championships.

With over 340 sailors from 17 different countries the great wind conditions (and blue skies!) certainly made for a memorable week's sailing for all competitors. On the last day of racing the light but changeable winds meant that the final results were only decided after the last race.

A wonderful week for Lymington!

In the Senior Main Fleet, Lymington sailor Santi Sesto Cosby finished 4th overall to be crowned 2019 British National Senior Champion (1st British boy) and Lymington's Henry Heathcote finished 5th overall (2nd British boy). Massive congratulations to both. And also to Ella Lightbody, who received an award as 3rd British Girl.

Emma Breese from Lymington, 2019 Junior Optimist National ChampionIn the Junior Main Fleet, Lymington's Emma Breese had a storming start to the week and managed to hold on as top Brit, being crowned 2019 Junior National Champion and 1st girl.

And in Regatta Fleet, congratulations to Lymington's Dirk Rogers for achieving 2nd place and to Henry May who was 3rd.

Well done to all the other Lymington sailors who took part in the Main Fleet: Sam Webb, Oliver Vines, Annabelle Vines, Molly Dowson Mcgill, Freddie Fitzsimmons, Grace Lonsdale, Noah Evans, Cameron Bignold-Kyles, Tabitha Davies, Harry Baddeley and Nia Mecklenburgh. And in Regatta Fleet: Jonny Rogers, Leo Gosling, Ocean Hughes, Hector Davies, Alex Breese, Lauren Mecklenburgh, William Hutchinson, Amelia Hutchinson and Daisy Heron.

Emma Breese and Santi Sesto-CosbyThe Lymington Optimist fleet at Royal Lymington Yacht Club (RLymYC) really does go from strength to strength, with regular training led by top coaches all year round. Many of the sailors are selected for national and regional squads, either with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) or International Optimist Class Association (IOCA), and attend training and events throughout the year. Hats off to the hard work of the sailors, their coaches and - it has to be said - their parents and guardians!

Aged just 13, Jack was also awarded the Lymington Trophy as 1st Junior Boy, the Corinthian Trophy as 1st non-squad sailor and earlier in the week, the Ben Ainslie Trophy!

Congratulations to Jack, who is also a member of Royal Lymington Yacht Club and trains regularly with the Lymington Youth Lasers 4.7 fleet.
