On Saturday 21stSeptember at 11am, one of the biggest sailing events in the world is going to take place!

The Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation charity has set the scene for Bart’s Bash, a global sailing race and fundraising event at local sailing clubs around the world on Sunday 21 September 2014. Bart’s Bash will be joining together thousands of worldwide sailors in a race to set a new Guinness World Record, raise money for charity, inspire the next generation and remember Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson, Gold & Silver Olympic medallist and America’s Cup sailor.

Bart’s Bash is on course to break several records, and you can be a part of it. If you have any type of sailing dinghy or keel boat enter here, if not come and join us on the sea-wall between Lymington and Pennington to watch this unique event.

On May 9th, 2013, Andrew 'Bart' Simpson tragically died in a training accident in San Francisco bay while preparing for the America's Cup competition.

There was shock across the sailing world at the loss of this truly great and selfless man, particularly in Lymington as many local sailors had met and knew him personally.  (He and Sir Ben Ainslie were very close friends.)

The Royal Lymington Yacht Club, Lymington Town Sailing Club and Keyhaven Yacht Club have joined forces to create the Western Solent Bart’s Bash. The sailing clubs are keen to support this event and we need your help. We are inviting all sailors in the area, whether members of one of these sailing clubs or not, to join us for the Western Solent Bart’s Bash. The race is open to all classes and there will be one start, and one person somewhere in the world will be crowned winner of the Bart’s Bash, and that person could be you!

The dinghy race area will be to the west of Lymington River in the vicinity of the Pennington outfall.  Visiting sailors are asked to launch their boats from Keyhaven Yacht Club where there is plenty of space to store trailers and vehicles. Keel boats will start from the Royal Lymington Yacht Club’s starting platform at the same time and will race towards Yarmouth.
