Forest Oaks, Brockenhurst opens its doors to welcome visitors for National Care Home Open Day.

Forest Oaks Care Home open their doors for National Care Home Open Day 2014.

 Wilverley-067As one of The Wilverley Association’s New Forest Homes, Forest Oaks Care Home in Brockenhurst are proud to be participating in National Care Home Open Day on Friday 20th June.   Forest Oaks, a residential care and nursing home, based in the heart of Brockenhurst Village, will be opening its doors to the public, offering the chance for visitors to come and look around, have a chat, coffee, meet some of their residents and staff and even have a tour of this lovely home, set in beautiful surroundings.  Having an open door policy is not unusual for Forest Oaks, they are very happy to welcome new visitors and friends every day of the year.  The aim of this national event however, is to offer anyone who might be considering a residential care or nursing home for themselves or a loved one, the chance to come and join them in an informal, relaxed environment.

On June 20th 2014, thousands of care homes across the UK will be opening their doors to welcome the public, with the aim of not only connecting residents with their local communities but also changing the perception of care homes for good.   This is a great opportunity to come and see how care homes operate.

As a friendly, caring home, I’ve heard first-hand how happy the residents of Forest Oaks are, having spoken with many of them myself, here’s what some of them have to say;

“The staff were so friendly when I came here and because I already had friends in Forest Oaks, moving here felt like the natural thing to do, it’s nice to know someone is always there for you when you need them.”   (Mrs G aged 86)

Mrs B, aged 84 has always been very independent and active, now a Forest Oaks resident, she told me “I couldn’t be anywhere better, my friend brings my dog to visit me every week, I can walk into town, so I can be as independent as I want, I can even play my music or the television late at night and no-one tells me off!

The staff are excellent”, says Mr B aged 90, as a resident of Forest Oaks he has an enviable social life by anyone’s standards.

The Wilverley Assosiation understand that moving into a care home is a big step, so they offer friendly, practical advice so every individual is offered the best solution to suit their own personal care needs.  All residents receive a care plan tailored to suit them, achieved through initial assessment, on-going observation and planning.   The aim is that the transition into care is as smooth and stress free as possible, so that you or your loved one can enjoy their precious years, safe in the knowledge they’re being cared for by a professional, highly skilled and dedicated care team.   A spokesperson for the Wilverley also commented “it’s important for residents to maintain their independence, dignity and control while our team provide the care they need.”

Registered as a charity since 1964, this year marks Wilverley’s 50th anniversary running high quality care homes.   Set in the beautiful, tranquil surroundings of the New Forest, they have two very comfortable, well-appointed and friendly residential care and nursing homes, offering the best in quality care.  Forest Oaks, Brockenhurst, situated within walking distance of the village, and Little Haven, Dibden Purlieu, within 3 minutes’ walk of the village centre, easy reach of Hythe and its ferry to Southampton.

With over 40 well-appointed rooms in each home, the majority offering en-suite accommodation, pretty garden views, comfortable communal areas, a well-stocked library, spa bathroom and a hairdressing and beauty salon.  Whilst care is obviously central to what they do, organised activities are at the heart of care, so hobbies, outings, exercise and most importantly fun are actively encouraged!

Both homes offer residential, nursing, respite and palliative care, together with no obligation trial visits, so if you’re considering a better environment for yourself or a loved one do come along to Forest Oaks for a chat as part of National Care Homes Open Day on Friday 20th June, or simply visit  to find out more or give our friendly team a call on 01590 622424

We look forward to meeting you on the 20th June 2014.
