Residents have until 23 September 2019 to submit their ideas to improve this area of Lymington: a focal point for visitors and shoppers as they explore the town, currently dominated by a car park and toilet block.

Councillor Alison Hoare, NFDC portfolio holder for environment and regulatory services, said: “The NFDC toilet block is due for modernisation so we are taking the opportunity to work together with the Town Council and the Harbour Commission to make the most of the opportunity to look at the whole Quay and consider if we could improve it.

“As part of developing our plans, we are asking interested local residents, businesses, river users and visitors to complete a short survey on what they value and what they think could be improved.“

Lymington Quay is one of the town’s main retail and visitor focal points used by shoppers, tourists and river users including sailors and fishermen. The Quay itself contains two car parks, the slipway, flood wall and the public toilet block, which includes showers for visiting boat users. The quayside also forms an important part of the flood defences of the town, with the public toilets building integrated into this structure.

The three partners are considering improvements now because the NFDC public toilets are due to be upgraded as part of the council’s modernisation programme. The council is keen to ensure that any improvements meet the current and future needs of users, as well as maintaining the flood defences of the town.

Lymington and Pennington Town Council sees an opportunity to enhance this part of the town and is considering whether the car parking areas could be transformed into mixed use to provide an area of open space suitable for events and markets.lymington town quay aug19 survey image 2

The NFDC toilet block currently includes shower and washroom facilities provided by Lymington Harbour Commission for visiting yachtsmen and women. The Harbour Commission wishes to upgrade these facilities to help the harbour to compete with other nearby destinations.
