New Sports Awards Launched Following Woodside Pavilion Planning Permission

Woodside Pavilion Planning Permission Granted And New Sports Awards Launched is delighted to share the Lymington Sports Association (LSA) news TODAY:

Planning permission has been granted, marking the start of a new era for sport in Lymington, and the LSA is immediately launching the inaugural annual Sports Awards, thus embracing all the sports of the Town!

The existing pavilion at Woodside Park is a much valued, yet underused facility that has been in place since the early 1980s. Due to its age, construction and limited provision, the time is right to evolve the pavilion and the improved facilities (becoming governing body compliant for all ages and genders) and by offering additional club room space, the site will also be pivotal to the LSA’s vision to foster a much needed sense of sporting community that in recent years Lymington has missed.

Planners have voted to grant permission for the development of the single story pavilion lining it up to become one of the finest and highly regarded in the local area.

The LSA aims to unite sportspeople, fostering a lifelong connection with sports and ensuring a continuity of sporting activity throughout their lives.

The association, through its scale and collective experience, goes further to secure that sharing of financial best practice, operational support and cross club mentoring will provide both new clubs the opportunity to establish themselves and those clubs already established, stability for the future. The LSA is confident that it will realise economies of scale so that its members will be able to take advantage of partnerships forged with local professionals and suppliers.

Similarly the collective scale of the membership will afford support for funding and grant applications: and increased propensity for success due to economies of scale. The current grant submission for £50,000 of funding to further enhance the pavilion is currently in consideration by Sport England as part of their £65m inspired facilities program.

Mark Seamer, Chairman of the Lymington Sports Association said:

“The decision to grant the planning application gives us an amazing opportunity to drive the London 2012 Olympic legacy forward and not only inspire our generation but more importantly, generations to come.”

“Woodside is perfectly positioned to be a place for recreation and sport. This decision now allows us to concentrate on achieving our objectives of delivering the legacy through fostering a community, driving up sports participation and inspiring our community both young and old (irrespective of gender or ability) to believe in the power of the Olympic ethos.”

"To celebrate the announcement, the LSA are extremely proud to launch the inaugural annual Sports Awards. More than ever we want to celebrate the excellent work of the individuals and groups who go the extra mile for sport. The new awards will be for achievements made during the sporting year of 2014 and will include an Olympic Legacy Award which will be for service in coaching, officiating or volunteering since the London 2012 Olympic Games. All clubs that are part of the association are encouraged to take part in this celebration of sport and entry forms can be accessed online via We anticipate that we could have well in excess of 800 sportspeople eligible for entry to the awards and heavily supported by friends and family we expect to reach out to thousands”.
