Refill New Forest - where to fill your reusable water bottles!
Your business or organisation could get on the map as a water bottle refill station!
Refill New Forest launched in 2018 with the aim of tackling plastic pollution in the New Forest by making it easier to locate free tap water. This is part of a larger, national campaign now has over 15,000 refill points in the UK.
Put your tap on the map: keep Britain hydrated and help to prevent plastic pollution
The Refill App allows people to search for the nearest location to fill up their water bottles. Participating cafes, bars, restaurants, banks, galleries, museums, estate agents and other businesses simply put a sticker in their window – alerting passers-by to the fact they’re welcome to come on in and fill up their bottle – for free! By adding themselves to the app, the public can search for the nearest business which offers free tap water.
Gus Hoyt, Refill Programme Manager at City to Sea, was delighted to see the New Forest becoming part of the scheme: “We are over the moon that the New Forest is joining the Refill Family. As a child I spent many a happy summer camping in this beautiful part of the world which we all need to help protect from litter and pollution.”
In the first week since launching in the New Forest, over 30 businesses have already signed up with one of the first being the Old School Café at the St Barbe Museum in Lymington. Refill are keen to stress that it’s not only cafes that can get involved – all kinds of business are welcome to join.
Refill New Forest is run by volunteers from New Forest Transition, and is part-funded by New Forest National Park Authority’s Sustainable Communities Fund. This fund is a grant scheme aimed at strengthening the well-being and sustainability of communities within the New Forest National Park. Anyone who wants to know more about the national Refill scheme and getting involved should visit www.refill.org.uk
Look out for the blue Refill New Forest stickers when you're out and about, or use the app to locate where you can fill up your reusable water bottles for free. We thoroughly recommend that you download the app and see for yourselves where you can refill your water bottle!
Together let's reduce plastic waste.
Transition Lymington is a part of the wider New Forest Transition movement, working towards a sustainable future. It formed in response to a number of our current social and environmental issues, namely climate change, impending oil shortage and economic uncertainty. An active community organisation, Lymington Transition is open for anyone to join.
