Editorial Introduction September 2021: On Radio 4 recently, Professor Atul Shah drew on his background as a Jain to argue that in the complexity of today we need a healthier relationship with finance. “Finance is a very sensitive subject and a lack of knowledge leads to ignorance and maybe fear. However, this has been replaced by a desire to learn about it given all the scandals recently and the economic downturns.People do research online and are becoming more and more aware and astute. However, with the myriad of financial institutions and advisers etc and their tempting offers, uncertainty and confusion does creep in, so, as Professor Shah says, trust is critical.
