Colten Care and New Forest Basics Bank

We’d never been to a food bank and didn't know what to expect...

...I’ll try to explain the best I can the incredible effect - Linden House visit to Lymington Food Bank, a revelation for Lorraine

Her recent visit to Lymington food bank New Forest Basics Bank inspired Lorraine Bell manager of Colten Care's Linden House, specialist dementia care home in Lymington, to write this poem afterwards.

I had to pop out with a friend today

I debated if I had the time

heaps to do and more coming through

but today was the end of the line

The end of the line for donations

For folk who are truly in need

This trying year has taken its toll

with many more mouths to feed

The kindness was overwhelming

From the Linden House staff Team

Head office doubled the bounty

Families joined in the slipstream

Proud to represent Colten care

Happy to help our community

we packed up the car and off we went

united in our unity

We’d never been to a food bank

and didn’t know what to expect

I’ll try to explain the best I can

The incredible effect

Sincerity and goodness filled the air

We were overwhelmed completely

Drenched in the privilege of being there

In awe of these wonderful people

These hard-working genuine people

Happy, giving their time for free

Humanity at its ultimate best

Nobody could disagree

The room was full to bursting

So much kindness for us to see

Eighty families helped today

Boxes packed with care and dignity

We felt choked with pure emotion

At how truly grateful they were

They all thanked us profusely

As we made our way to the door

Waving a smiling goodbye

they proceeded to thank us again

We both left feeling truly humbled

Proud to support this campaign
