Another Holiday!

As yet another Bank Holiday beckons it's also the start of Summer Half Term - although we may already have had our quota of summer weather! For my generation 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' including tongue twisting song was a magical airborne addition to childhood. 'Our fine-four-fendered-friend’ may no longer leave terra firma but will be happy to take you on a special ride from the National Motor Museum down to Palace House, as one of the many fun things going on at Beaulieu this half term. They include 'New Forest Folklore' and 'We Had One Of Those' - those treasured cars from the 1960's and onwards which spark memories of family picnic outings and road trips when life was simply simpler. Plus lots more including the opportunity to meet Lord Montagu's Falconer: click here. This weekend also sees the opening of the big new exhibition at Beaulieu which then runs right through to 2 November: Icons of Formula 1. And if you're a fan of the iconic VW through its various ages and guises it's Simply VW at Beaulieu on Sunday too.

This Bank Holiday Weekend you could also head over to a bigger than ever BROCKSTOCK 2025 in Brockenhurst, and to the Turfcutters Arms in East Boldre where there's live music tonightSunday and Monday

And whilst contemplating that heady combination of beer and live music in the open air, see below for advance notice of the Summer Beer Festival at Monkey Brewhouse.

Regardless of the amazing recent weather, right now it is still spring. Beginning long before an ever earlier dawn and continuing right through to long after an ever later dusk, beautiful birdsong continues to delight. How uplifting their joyfulness, what a solace for sorrow. If you're also fascinated to differentiate between the singers, download the Merlin app - it's brilliant!

Which leads me nicely to the first concert in the Solent Music Festival tomorrow evening: the 'taster' for Voces8 Scholars - All Seems Beautiful was all it took to book my ticket to hear more of these heavenly voices! The festival then continues through the whole of next week with a nightly feast of classical treats plus the special free family concert on Wednesday; if you've never thought of going to a classical concert it's a wonderful opportunity on our doorstep!

There's lots more 'what's on' below and as always check out the full Events Calendar where you can search easily by date and also by type of event eg family, live music etc. Happy Bank Holiday Weekend and Happy Half Term too!

Best wishes Jane

PS Last evening I had the pleasure to be present at the very well attended Battle of the Businesses, a fun fundraising quiz night for Oakhaven Hospice, with funds kindly to be matched by Barclays Bank. The quiz included a 'collectives' section from which most of us learned lots (eg did you know it's a 'crash' of rhinos, a 'tower' of giraffes and a 'shiver' of sharks?). This led me last night to seek more online and I thought some of you might enjoy this: 'A Parliament of Owls and a Murder of Crows: How Groups of Birds Got Their Names'
