Following the Fetes: the Festival As our lovely summer resumes, we're looking ahead a couple of weeks now to the Bank Holiday Weekend, and especially to the fabulous Exbury Festival of Music which takes place on Thursday 21, Friday 22 and Saturday 23 August in the beautiful gardens of Exbury. It's time to book tickets! Featuring talented tribute bands specially chosen not just for their outstanding musical ability and showmanship but also their remarkable resemblances to the original artists, 'Music by Moonlight' open-air concerts are a 'Family friendly funfest' (The Times) and perfect for a summer evening. Gates open at 6.30pm, performances begin at 7.30pm. The setting within Exbury Gardens is a large grassy area surrounded by magnificent trees: a picnic perfect spot which as dusk then darkness falls, becomes ever more magical - and that's before we even get to the music... The idea is to arrive early with your blankets and low back chairs if you wish (no seating is provided) then either unpack your own picnic or you take your pick from a variety of food and drink stalls. The festival kicks off on Thursday 21 August with 80s Anthems by Moonlight, featuring a dazzling array of vocalists and musicians ready to take you on a journey back in time and to dance the night away to the iconic tunes of Spandau Ballet, Tina Turner, Wham and more. Friday night (22 August) is Motown by Moonlight: sundown soul, and disco at dusk: dance to the sound of young America and party to the timeless tunes of Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and many more. And then on the Saturday evening 23 August it's 21st Century Queen, looking and sounding uncannily like the original iconic rock legends and performing many of the band’s best known and loved hits including We Will Rock You, Radio Ga Ga, and possibly the greatest single of all time Bohemian Rhapsody. You are promised an extraordinarily atmospheric experience - and dancing throughout the whole set is in my experience inevitable! Book tickets online now! Family Fun Day at Lymington Sea Water Baths 100% of proceeds to the RNLI - book online now More family fun in store: next Sunday 17 August is party in the pool time, with a giant family fun day at Lymington Sea Water Baths. There will be lots of family fun and games including a Kids Bath Race, Paddleboard Races and a Rip Tide Simulator. The BBQ and food and drink stalls will keep you sustained between all these! There will also be Water Safety Sessions and Lifesaving Demonstrations which are well worth attending: you could safe your own or somebody else's life in the future. Entry is free but donations are encouraged and fittingly these will all go to the RNLI. Orchestra, Opera, or both? Charity Open-Air Music Weekend in support of Hammersley Homes You are warmly invited to enjoy, in the glorious open air setting above: on Saturday 6 September the magical music of Penguin Cafe Orchestra and on Sunday 7 September an evening of Opera! Amanda Mann is generously hosting these two charity events in her beautiful Lymington garden overlooking the Solent and Isle of Wight. Bring your chairs, rugs and picnic (or choose from pop-up food and drink for sale), and sit back to be entertained by these superb performers. All proceeds will go directly to Hammersley Homes to help this very special Lymington based charity continue its vital work: to support adults living with long-term mental illness, by offering companionship, practical help with daily living, and ultimately the hope of permanent supported housing. With kindness and compassion the charity aims to reduce isolation, improve lives, and build a future where no one is left to struggle alone. The gardens will open from 3pm and performances will begin at 5pm. Click here for all the details and to book online. There is still a lot of summer fun to come, but I've now added September events as well to the events section below. For October and beyond and for many more upcoming events, do check out the full Events Calendar. But first, especially if you're thinking about a house move at some point in the years ahead, do read Scott Bailey's August article and download their helpful guide to buying and selling your home!
