Spectacular Sunsets
There have been so many really special sunsets over the past couple of weeks! We are truly spoiled, especially if we live on the open New Forest, facing west!
Then this week, the most amazing, enormous ‘Hunter’ supermoon took over the sky for the evenings, nights and early hours - although my photos, without the equipment to do it justice, are rubbish. I think we can forgive it for disturbing our sleep though; in fact, I probably should have just got up and gone for a walk - I certainly wouldn’t have needed a torch!
A Quarter of a Century at Scott Bailey
Another anniversary is being marked this week, with a special milestone for one of Lymington’s familiar legal faces. James Burford, Partner and Head of Property at Scott Bailey Solicitors, is celebrating 25 years with the firm. He had his first taste of the legal world as a teenager on work experience, and joined officially in the first year of the millennium.
Over the years James has become a cornerstone of Scott Bailey's property department, known for his industry expertise and his calm, knowledgeable approach. He has worked with generations of local families and businesses, acting on everything from first homes to commercial developments and marina properties. He’s particularly proud of strong client relationships that have stood the test of time, with many people returning again and again for trusted advice.
Here's James reflecting on 25 years...
- Back in 2000, my day was governed by what was in the post...now, emails flood the inbox and can be replied to in an instant, rather than days.
- 25 years ago, my office computer was the size of an industrial microwave. Now it’s a tiny box hiding somewhere on my desk – but it has 3 giant screens.
- (25 years ago, I had hair.)
- 25 years ago, some people smoked. At their desk! Yes, really!
- Cheques. Some of my team have never even seen one.

The Twins Have Finally Done It!
As reported on BBC News, twin Lymington brothers Stuart and Ian Paton have finally broken two world records - for the world's largest and heaviest pumpkin. They've been growing giant pumpkins for over 50 years, had come close to breaking the records several times before and even surpassed them once, but were then disqualified because of a small hole in the fruit! (Yes pumpkins are botanically classified as fruit because they develop from the flower of a plant and contain seeds.) But this year, after their carefully nurtured 'baby' weighed in at 2,819lbs (1.278kg) with a circumference of over 21ft (6.4m), the record is finally theirs.
Hmmm that's quite a lot of soup for the making... but not yet: it's on show for the next few weeks at Sunnyfields Farm near Southampton, so you can go and take a look if you like! And after that it could end up as elephant feed, apparently! Read more here!
It’s quite something meanwhile that all these piglets seem to have made it so far, despite spending most of their little lives on a busy road - much to the frustration of drivers in a rush and the delight of everyone else. And surely that really is love on mum’s face! Here’s hoping she leads them soon to the acorn banquets which await them not far away...
Upcoming Events
It still feels too early to talk about Christmas! However, popular events like wreath making and cookery classes are already getting booked up so do take a look: at both the Diary section below and lots more in the full Events Calendar. Lots of other new events have been added below too, so have a scroll.
If the weather remains kind it should be a bumper Craft Cider Festival Weekend at New Forest Cider in Burley. There's no onsite parking, instead there are free tractor and trailer rides from the village centre to the farm! What fun!
Best wishes Jane
