A short walk from the pretty, bustling and friendly village of Brockenhurst itself, the Balmer Lawn is a large, comfortable and spacious independent hotel, restaurant and spa in a fabulous location right on the open forest with the village cricket green in front of it and the river with its famous "Brockenhurst Beach" adjacent. It has been owned and managed privately since 1997 by Chris and Alison Wilson, who during that time have restored and modernised the iconic building.  Together with the Wilsons' renowned enterprise and commitment to service this has made it into one of the foremost hotels in the New Forest today.

Park in the spacious car park and when you walk through the modern entrance you'll find yourself in a spacious and very pleasing reception and sitting area, with a smart elegant modern feel yet a country atmosphere too - with wellies lined up at the front door and dog friendly of course as well.

You'll immediately get a sense of the feel and flavour of this lovely place.  If you then turn to the right and along the corridor you'll find a wonderful selection of old photographs and other items which tell a long and fascinating history of both the hotel itself and this special and hugely popular part of the New Forest.

A taste of the history of the Balmer Lawn

The Hotel’s name is taken from the lawn to the front of the Hotel, originally thought to have been called Palmers Lawn (a historical typo culminating in Balmer Lawn). The name is mentioned in the Doomsday Book.

Originally built in the mid 1800’s as a hunting lodge, the Balmer Lawn is a classic Country House Hotel witih its own very proud history including being commandeered as an Army Hospital and strong links with New Zealand and Canada through the two world wars.
