(I'm away in Canada until 22 September and working around holiday activities and time differences, so this newsletter may be shorter than, and appear in your inbox on a different day/time to, usual! The Diary has been updated with recently added events up until local time of sending, do refer also to https://www.lymington.com/events.)

Ponies & Pannage

I've been remiss in not having yet mentioned the New Forest pony drifts, which began at the end of August. It's also been challenging to find all the details in one place. So finally here is a full list of dates and locations, along with car park closures and a reminder of what the drifts - also known as round-ups - are all about: Pony Drifts for Autumn 2025!

Meanwhile the autumn pannage season has also begun this week, and you can read all about that here: Look out for pigs! Pannage in the New Forest 2025. Along with its unpredictable weather, autumn is now in full swing, !

Talking about pigs (and other animals eg donkeys!), affected forest facing properties should have been notified directly as well but food waste bins can now be left inside their gates. And rubbish bins where necessary!

And talking about the forest, next week New Forest District Council will be considering its final proposal for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) in Hampshire and the Solent, incorporating all the comments received from residents, with a strong recommendation to support a model that keeps the New Forest whole within a new Mid Hampshire unitary authority. Read the notice here.

Nice News

In an upside down world it's nice to share positive local news, this week of young 420 sailor Harry George of Lymington Town Sailing Club, who has been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2025 Youth Sailing World Championships in Portugal in December, as part of the 16-strong British Youth Sailing Team.

The Youth Sailing World Championships is the pinnacle of youth sailing, a springboard for future Olympic and professional careers where many legends of the sport, including Sir Ben Ainslie, first made their mark. Harry and crew Ralph Cawthorne's selection is the culmination of years of relentless hard work and dedication, and an outstanding 2025 season throughout which they have consistently proved themselves against elite international fleets. Read more here.

Silently Supporting...

Talking about Lymington Town Sailing Club, a shout out for the Silent Disco Night which is being held at the club in aid of the wonderful local charity Força - Strength Against Cancer, on Saturday 4 October. Força was founded in 2011 by a group of mums from Lymington who were inspired after one of their friends was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.

What's Coming Up

A reminder about this Saturday's Children's Triathlon at Walhampton School which should be fun spectator sport too - good luck to all the participants!

Also a note that Saturday marks the opening of The Life of the Fields at St Barbe Museum & Art Gallery. This unique exhibition examines artists' representations of farming and farmed landscapes from 1900 to the present and chronicles some of the huge changes in agriculture and the appearance of rural landscapes in recent times.

Lots more weekend events are listed below, and many more in the full Events Calendar!

Best wishes Jane
