The Wonder of The Wander
Good Morning, I hope you've been enjoying this wonderful week of weather! For me it's followed 3 beautiful weeks in Canada, where hiking in the spectacular Rockies (yes including seeing bears!) was one of the highlights.
Walking in the New Forest is as good in many ways though. It's such a simple and inexpensive activity, yet also one of my life's greatest pleasures. Whither shall we wander, my canine companion above might be asking. Yet so often it doesn't really matter, it's just good to put one foot in front of the other - especially when the weather is gorgeous!
It's timely to talk about this now, because next month from Saturday 18 October to Sunday 2 November it's the 2025 New Forest Walking Festival, and as autumn progresses and the colours turn golden, a host of guided walks and workshops will take place throughout the forest during that special fortnight. The Festival is listed in the Diary below, with a further link to the page where all the details are currently being added. So keep an eye on it...
Domiciliary Physiotherapy, Anyone?
What that means is: a physio who comes to you, rather than you having to travel to them!
Richard from The Arches Physiotherapy in Lymington (for introduction see our 15 August newsletter) has asked me to bring to your attention Alison, the Arches Domiciliary Chartered Physiotherapist, who will bring The Arches ethos to you wherever you are. Which could be to your home, or to your residential or nursing home.
Alison can help you with mobility issues, reduce aches and pains, and help to promote your strength and confidence in your home environment. If you would like to benefit from Alison’s expertise, or you think your family member or someone you care for may benefit from physiotherapy support at home, do get in touch with The Arches. It's all about helping you to move better - and keeping movement going!
Other News and Upcoming Events
First, sadly Força's Silent Disco Night, mentioned just last week, has had to be postponed. Força has another fundraising event planned though - a sale of nearly new clothes for ladies and teens, on Fri 3 & Sat 4 October, and a very good opportunity for a wardrobe refresh! All money raised will help to fund their Nourish, Support and Strength projects, helping people affected by cancer in Hampshire and Dorset.
Meanwhile lots of other events have been added this week to our Events Calendar. In particular drawing your attention to:
- There's live music tonight at the Turfcutters Arms, with the ever popular Just Jamming
- Nominations for the annual New Forest Business Partnership Brilliance in Business Awards are open until next Tuesday - do take a look at the award categories and if you have a favourite business you'd like to nominate for an award, do it now!
- Eat Local Grow Local this coming Sunday at the Countryside Education Trust in Beaulieu. As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, CET invites you to join them at another exciting open event as they embrace autumn and celebrate their harvest in style. Find out more about the food and drink on your doorstep whilst at the same time having ample opportunity to explore the farm, gardens and orchard.
- The first ever Adult Heels Dance Workshop in Lymington! with New Forest Academy of Dance, on 7 November: 'This Friday evening session is all about confidence, style and performance. You’ll learn a dynamic routine in a fun and supportive environment, with the chance to explore your own flair and musicality. Heels are welcome, but not mandatory – so whether you choose to bring your favourite pair or stick to trainers, the focus is on enjoying the movement and feeling empowered.' No dance experience necessary!
- Between 27 October and 17 November, a Poppy Cascade! A 50-strong group of “Poppy Day Creatives” from Boldre and surrounding villages have been working for 8 months to make Remembrance Day 2025 especially memorable. Nearly 5,000 hand-crafted poppies, created by volunteers over the past four months, are being fixed to a 23m² net which will cascade from the 40 feet high tower of St John the Baptist Church, Boldre in a striking tribute to those who served and sacrificed. The church is a particularly poignant site for this installation due to its close historic ties with HMS Hood, the Royal Navy battlecruiser sunk in 1941 during the Second World War.
Plus as always, there are lots more events listed on the full Events Calendar!
And finally - October is nearly upon us, so it's time to include Christmas events in the Diary below.
Best wishes Jane
